Jerry thoroughly enjoyed a long and distinguished career as Professor in the Faculty of Education at the U of R. He often said it wasn’t like having a job as he loved going to work every day! His career concluded with a final honour as Professor Emeritus after 33 years of teaching. Passed away March 9,2020

Barbara Stange, retired professor in the Faculty of Education (1974-1987) passed away in Kelowna BC on Sept. 14, 2018.

Vicki was a staff member who retired in 2008 after 30 years of service to the University of Regina. She assumed responsibilities in the Graduate Program in 1998. In 2000, she became Program Coordinator for the Research and Graduate Programs in Education Office until she retired at the end of June, 2008.

Ormond Knight McKague: Following the completion of graduate work, he moved to university teaching in Regina and Saskatoon, and finally to Winnipeg, where his last position was that of director of the Winnipeg Education Centre, which prepared teachers for work in multicultural, inner-city schools. When he returned to Regina in the mid-1990’s, he became involved with a number of civic and social-issue organizations. McKague passed away June 5, 2017

John Schaller taught social studies in New York State (Grades 6-12) before joining the Faculty of Education, University of Regina in 1969. By 1971, he and Dr. Joe Kalla were instrumental in setting up the teacher training experience at the Faculty. This involved a three-day Fall and three-day Winter outdoor experience held at Fort San. He often assisted teaching the Winter Outdoor Education class at the University of Regina. In addition, he was involved with Churchill River canoe trips, studies at Stanley Mission, and field trips to Hutterite colonies and Reserves. John passed away in 2014 at age 87. 

Dr. Cameron Ross who was the Drama Education professor with the Arts Education Program in the Faculty of Education from 1984 to 1999. He passed away in November 2014.

Dr. Norm Kuhns retired in June 2010 after a long career at the U of R. In his 3rd year of tenure, he became the Associate Director of Counselling Services where his time was shared until he returned to the Faculty in 1994 on a full-time basis. Norm passed away in 2014.

Professor Emeritus, passed away Sept. 30, 2012.

Dr. Joseph Neufeld taught Education Psychology in the Faculty of Education for 24 years. He passed away June 27, 2012.

Pat Duffy Hutcheon was a faculty member during the transition from the Normal School to the Faculty of Education at the University (1968-1973). Hutcheon passed away Thursday February 4, 2010 at the St. James Hospice in Vancouver.

Marjorie Beisel, who worked at the University of Regina in the Education Faculty until her retirement in 2003, passed away in July 15, 2009.

Dr. Reverend Agnes Groome was a woman of remarkable energy and organizational skills. An accomplished educator and minister, she was highly educated, earning seven degrees in seven decades (BA, BEd, BDiv, MA, MEd, PhD and MDiv). Agnes passed away on May 30, 2008

Dr. Sandra Whittick, who retired from the Faculty of Education as Professor Emeritus in 1981, passed away February 4, 2007.

After retiring from the STF, William Errol Young joined the Faculty of Education, University of Regina, where he was involved with the placement of interns and internship seminars. He passed away June 7, 2006

Mary passed away peacefully March 12, 2006
“As a Professor of Education at the University of Regina Mary had the rare ability to move with ease between university and community and bridge the gap between theory and practice. She bristled at the slightest whiff of injustice, especially when it involved children of low-income families and those marginalized because of their sexual orientation.”
Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Association for Young Children (2002) University of Regina Alumnae Award for Excellence in Public Service (2004).

Bernie Melanson joined the Faculty in 1965. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 1970. She passed away in 1975. The SaskOutdoor Melanson Award is named after Bernie.

Dr. Evelina Orteza (PhD in Philosophy) was hired 1966. Dr Orteza passed away on July 26, 2014.

 “And then there was the intelligent young Evelina Orteza from the Philippines, who had recently graduated with a PHD in Philosophy from an American university. She had arrived just the year before. She and I were interested in many of the same ideas, and became close friends almost immediately. From the first week of my arrival, we began to spend much of our time during coffee breaks and lunch hours in the faculty lounge, engaged in deep theoretical discussions. Evelina also got into the habit of coming over to our house in the evenings, along with Bernie. Lillian Lyle Evelyn (Evans) King (1907-92) In 1962, Lyle Evans was appointed Associate Professor at the College of Education of the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus, where she was responsible for the program in school library service until 1974.
