Spatial and Numeric Data Services (SANDS), University of Regina Library

May 30th, 2017

Hello Graduate Students,

RE: Spatial and Numeric Data Services (SANDS), University of Regina Library

SANDS
provides access to quantitative computer-readable research data and digital spatial data from many disciplines. SANDS assists with identifying, locating and retrieving data files in the collection, as well as identifying, locating and acquiring data from external sites. The Canadian Census (Statistics Canada), CANSIM (Canadian Socio-Economic Information Management System) and the [U.S.] National Study of Business Strategy and Workforce Development are a few examples of datafiles available to you.

N.B. some data files are subject to specific licence agreements restricting use to current U of R students, faculty and staff. Please note and observe any restrictions which may apply. Please direct any questions pertaining to licences to datalib@uregina.ca.

SANDS – Spatial and Numeric Data Services – Why data is important – and fun! (Video)

As Data Librarian, it is my goal to inform graduate students about the Spatial and Numeric Data Services (SANDS) section in the University of Regina Library and its services.

To this end, I announce, among other things, new and important social science (and other) data releases, webinars, events, training, etc. Typically, I send announcements to the Research Listserv
. This may be a list you already subscribe to or, perhaps, you have never even heard of it. Note: you do not have to sign up for the listserv to read the messages; you can always search the archives whenever you choose. However, should you wish to subscribe to this list (or any other U of R listserv), click here
.

I am creating a SANDS distribution list with names of graduate students who indicate to me that they would like to receive messages from SANDS for the purpose of keeping abreast of social science (and other) academic research data, as well as, related information. If this is of interest to you, please send a message to marilyn.andrews@uregina.ca with your name and email address. If ever you wish to unsubscribe to my list, let me know.

You are very welcome to contact me if you have any questions or would like to know more about SANDS collections and services, or how to search for data. I will be most happy to meet with you. You may also “drop in” – my office is in the Library, main floor (south side) — LY 107.23. However, if you don’t find me “in”, you can contact me by email
.

I look forward to meeting you.

Regards,

Marilyn Andrews
