Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships – Call for Nominations

The Trudeau Scholars Program grants up to fifteen new scholarships every year to outstanding doctoral candidates in the social sciences and humanities. The Foundation supports doctoral candidates pursuing research of compelling present-day concern, touching upon one or more of the four themes of the Foundation. Trudeau Scholars are actively engaged in their fields, in which they are expected to become leading national and international figures.

The competition is open to graduate student nominees of faculties that intend to work in an area related to one or more of the four themes of the Foundation, and a desire to contribute to public dialogue around these themes. The four themes of the Foundation are Human Rights and Dignity; Responsible Citizenship, Canada in the World; and People and their Natural Environment.

To be eligible for the 2015 Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship, a nominee is to:

Be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant applying to a doctoral program in the social sciences and humanities or registered full-time in the first or second year of such a program at a Canadian university

OR
Be a Canadian citizen applying to a doctoral program in the social sciences and humanities or registered full-time in the first or second year of such a program at a foreign university

OR
Be a foreign national (with a preference for candidates from the developing world) applying to a doctoral program in the social sciences and humanities or registered full-time in the first or second year of such a program at a Canadian university

Scholarships are tenable for a maximum of 4 years, and the stipend is valued at $40,000 per year to cover the cost of tuition and reasonable living expenses. An additional $20,000 per year is available to support approved research-related travel, and to cover the networking expenses associated with events and joint projects undertaken within the framework of the Foundation’s programmes.

Interested applicants should submit the complete application package (see below website) to the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research will review all nominees and forward a list of recommendations to the President. The President will determine the nominee(s) to forward to the Trudeau Foundation to compete in the 2015 Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship competition.

More information, including the application can be found on the Trudeau Foundation website at: http://www.trudeaufoundation.ca/en/programs/scholarships.
