Dr. Katya Herman joined the Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies at the University of Regina in 2013. Her academic background includes a BSc in Biochemistry (McMaster), MSc in Community Health and Epidemiology (Saskatchewan), PhD in Kinesiology and Health Studies (Physical Activity Epidemiology) (Queen’s), and Postdoctoral Fellowships in Epidemiology and in Kinesiology (McGill). Dr. Herman’s research interests are focused around physical activity, sedentary behaviour and obesity epidemiology. Her research has covered the lifespan from children to adults to older adults, examining the inter-relationships between physical activity, sedentary behaviour and obesity, and associations with both health-related quality of life and cardiometabolic outcomes. Dr. Herman is a member of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology, the International Society for Physical Activity and Health, the Sedentary Behaviour Research Network, and the Canadian Obesity Network. She is a former national team athlete in rowing, and continues to row for fun and fitness, while also a level 3 certified coach. Other interests include travel and home decorating and renovations. |

Michelle joined the PA-Epi Lab in 2014, and graduated with her MSc in 2017, completing a systematic review and meta-analysis investigating smoking as a cause of multiple sclerosis. She also published a paper looking at immigrant status and having a family physician in Canada. Michelle was offered a job with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region as a Clinical Appropriateness Analyst. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys spending time with friends and family, travelling, and participating in a variety of sports and outdoor activities.

masood5m@uregina.ca - Mahrukh joined the PA-Epi lab in Winter 2018, taking a summer Research Assistant position with the Stand-Up UofR study. She is in her 4th year of her Kinesiology degree, completing her Honours thesis on Productivity and Behaviour Perceptions of Office Workers Trialing a Sit-Stand Workstation. Mahrukh also volunteered with the SeasonActiv study. She is hoping to gain entrance into Medical School following her BKin degree. In her free time, Mahrukh enjoys spending time with her roommates, cooking and working out.

She is in her 3rd year Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics. She is working on her Honours Thesis investigating physical activity and sedentary behaviour in Canadian Immigrants. She hopes to pursue medicine after completing her undergraduate degree. Caryl also works part-time as a childcare worker and volunteers at the Regina General Hospital. In her spare time, she loves reading fiction books and binge watching Netflix.

toledoae@uregina.ca - Ed joined the PA-Epi Lab in Winter 2017, as a volunteer research assistant for the SeasonActiv study, and started doing participant assessments in Winter 2018. He is currently in his 3rd year of Kinesiology, and still considering his options for what it is he wants to do with his degree after he finishes, thinking graduate school “maybe”. In his spare time Ed likes to work out, stay active and binge watch Netflix.

usick11s@uregina.ca - Shea joined the PA-Epi Lab in Winter 2017, as a volunteer research assistant for the SeasonActiv study. He is studying Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics. Shea has a passion for movement and therapeutics, and hopes to pursue Physiotherapy as a graduate program. Shea currently works as a paramedic and teaches yoga part time. When not studying or working, Shea enjoys dancing, alto saxophone, calisthenics and board games.

symon20c@uregina.ca - Cam joined the PA-Epi lab in Fall 2017, as a volunteer research assistant for the SeasonActiv study. Cam is in his final year of Health Studies with the intent to apply to graduate school in the future. He graduated as an Advanced Care Paramedic in 2014. Cam has an interest in health and fitness. He recently completed his first half-marathon and is an avid hiker.

Yousef is in his 2nd year of Human Kinetics, hoping to attend medical school in the future. He works as a physician’s assistant at a Medical Clinic, and volunteers both at the Regina General Hospital and the Allan Blair Cancer Centre. In his free time Yousef coaches a youth girls soccer team and enjoys spending time with his friends and family.

Upon completion of her BKin, Christa achieved her goal of gaining admission to an MSc in Physical Therapy at the University of Saskatchewan.
