He has been a peace and social justice activist since the 1960s and has over 40 year\u2019s experience as an educator and social policy research consultant to unions, community organizations, and federal, provincial and municipal government agencies. Since 1995, Tom has immersed himself in research on working time.<\/p>\n<p>Tom's writing on the history of thought around working time have appeared in the\u00a0<em>Marshall Studies Bulletin<\/em>, the\u00a0<em>Review of Social Economy<\/em>, and as chapters in two books,\u00a0<em>Working Time: International Trends, Theory and Policy Perspectives<\/em>\u00a0(2000) and\u00a0<em>Toward a Good Society in the Twenty-First Century: Principles and Policies<\/em>\u00a0(2012). Her recent book, <em>Radical Housewives: Price Wars and Food Politics in Mid-Twentieth Century Canada<\/em> (UTP), was awarded the Errol Sharpe Book Prize for 2021 by the Society for Socialist Studies and received an Honourable Mention by the Canadian Committee on Women\u2019s History in 2020. Her work on women\u2019s, labour, and left history, social movements, and on labour policy and\u00a0 contemporary union struggles, has published in a number of international journals. She is co-editor, with Wayne Antony, of <em>Bankruptcies and Bailouts<\/em> (Fernwood, 2009). Mr. Delorme received a Master of Public Administration from the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy and a Bachelor of Business Administration along with a Certificate in Hospitality, Tourism and Gaming Entertainment Management from the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv). While a student, Mr. Delorme served in several capacities within the student association, including vice-president and president, and also served as a student ambassador. In 2012 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his student leadership and the hospitality he showed to Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, when they visited FNUniv in 2012. Mills\u2019 research examines gender, sexuality and work as well as how colonial relations shape work and Indigenous employment in construction, mining and forestry. Mills has collaborated with Inuit and First Nation communities to identify factors that aid or hinder employment on resource development projects. In her most recent research, Suzanne partnered with Unifor, the United Steelworkers, two worker centres and multiple 2SLGBTQ+ organizations to examine the experiences of LGBTQ+ workers in Windsor and Sudbury, Ontario. Her current research investigates legal strategies to combat modern slavery, labour exploitation and unfree labour in supply and labour chains. She followed her passion for cooking and became a Red Seal Chef by trade, and later became a member of SEIU Local<br \/>\n299 when she began working at Extendicare in Regina. She lives in Regina with her husband Dave. She has one son, Max, who she is really proud of. Her family are a constant support in her fight for respect for working people.<\/p>\n<p>Barbara has always been a passionate advocate for social justice and fairness and this has led to her work within the trade union movement. She joined the Executive<br \/>\nBoard of Local 299 and became President prior to the creation of SEIU-West. She's been the President of SEIU-West since 2008. She has a genuine interest in what our members do and as President she balances the needs of members while engaging the public in supporting positive and progressive changes to society that benefit everyone.<\/p>\n<p>While women are a huge component of the workforce, we still often see men leading unions. Barb stands amongst these presidents, leading the way for worker's rights across the prairies. She loves a good rally, stands in solidarity with strikers, encourages those fighting for better every day, and truly embodies what the trade union movement is all about.<\/p>\n<p>A leader raises others up, educates and empowers others to step forward, encourages and supports others to find their own voices. Time after time, we have all witnessed Barbara Cape encourage members to lead the union. For her, it's about the movement and growing capacity. He obtained it at the University of Toronto\u2019s Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources, which has a rigorous emphasis on empirical methodology. The skills he has gained enable him to conduct empirical legal research, a burgeoning and fertile area.<\/p>\n<p>Doctor Curran has developed and honed skills for innovative and high-quality scholarly research.\u00a0 He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and chapters in the area of labour and employment law.\u00a0 Many of these publications utilize sophisticated statistical analysis. Professor Curran is also a member of the national Labour Law Casebook Group, a group of Professors from across Canada who have published the authoriative Canadian casebook for labour and employment law.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his research abilities, Dr. Curran is an outstanding teacher.\u00a0 He is passionate about teaching many different areas of law, especially dispute resolution, negotiation, contracts, labour and employment law, trusts, and human rights.\u00a0 He is especially interested in experiential and multi-disciplinary approaches to teaching. Before becoming a Professor at University of Manitoba Faculty of Law, he was a Lecturer in the Legal Studies program at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) (now Ontario Tech University), where he taught a number of courses roughly analogous to those on the JD curriculum.\u00a0 Professor Curran has also taught courses at Osgoode Hall Law School, and the University of Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Curran has received a number of awards and honours for his teaching. While teaching at UOIT, he was the 2015 recipient of the Award of Teaching Excellence in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities. Since coming to the University of Manitoba, he was honoured with the University of Manitoba Merit Award for Teaching Excellence for the Humanities and Social Sciences section. Moreover, he has been nominated twice for the Barney Sneiderman Award for Teaching Excellence, and he was selected by one of his former students for recognition at the Students\u2019 Teacher Recognition Reception in 2020. He has a degree in Political Science and History from the University of Alberta, and has over 25 years of experience as a volunteer, staffer and consultant for various non-government and non-profit organizations around the province. He has spoken extensively and written on energy policy, democracy, privatization, and the Alberta economy. She decided to start her own studio and began freelancing for science-based organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Her work advocating for changes to OH&amp;S began after she was being sexually harassed at work. Her passion for protecting the most vulnerable and marginalized communities has led her to push for change to OH&amp;S legislation in Saskatchewan where contract workers are not currently protected. She has asked the Saskatchewan government to update OH&amp;S to include comprehensive language protecting workers from sexual\u00a0harassment, sexual violence, and sexual assault in the workplace. She is also advocating for the update to include language about\u00a0mental\u00a0health first\u00a0aid. Her master\u2019s thesis qualitatively explored women\u2019s experiences in the workplace with the goal of building capacity in organizations to support women in leadership positions. She has presented findings from her research at several international academic conferences in North America and Europe. Afra is also the co-founder of the \u201cBeyond Business-as-Usual\u201d conference (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AhSkooZvNw0\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AhSkooZvNw0<\/a> ) This interdisciplinary academic conference brought together staff, faculty, and graduate students doing research related to sustainability. In fall of 2021, Afra will be starting her doctoral journey at the Lang School of Business and Economics studying the intersections between EDI (equity, diversity and inclusion) and sustainability. He has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for this project, which will be completed by August 2022.\u00a0 Graham was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where he currently resides, but has also worked at the Provincial Archives of Alberta in Edmonton and internationally at the University of Western Australia in Perth. His research focuses on the sociology of work and employment, labour studies, and industrial relations. He recently secured a SSHRC Insight Grant (with Dr. Catherine Connelly at McMaster University) to investigate the mechanisms of labour market inclusion and marginalization across race, status, and gender lines during the COVID recovery. Some of his previous published work discusses the political economy of offshoring, collective action, and migrant worker rights in Saskatchewan. In 2012, Andrew helped to co-found the labour journalism site, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rankandfile.ca\/\">Rankandfile.ca<\/a>, with Dr. Doug Nesbitt. She wrapped up a 20 year practice as a consumer\/commercial arbitrator before her appointment to the U of R in 2012.<\/div>\n<div>\nShelagh is a SSHRC-funded scholar whose research examines occupational communities and collective action in a range of professional and employment settings.\u00a0 She is a research member of CRIMT, the Inter-university Research Centre on Globalization and Work, and is currently writing up the results of an international study of the impact of COVID-19 homeworking on university employees.
