Through decreasing archways, the viewers\u2019 eye is led down a pathway to a mystery at the centre of Cara Driscoll\u2019s sculpture, Arches <\/em>(c. 2000): a tiny pearl. The artist took the photograph during a trip to Fatehpur Sikri, India, with her partner, artist Jack Sures<\/a> (1934-2018). The building\u2019s architecture echoed the tree canopy in the couple\u2019s Cathedral neighbourhood back home in Regina. Both these natural and manmade spaces serve to lift the eye upward toward a more contemplative, perhaps spiritual, realm. Arches<\/em> plays with space and scale; the worlds within worlds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
