Jesus waits nearby, while witnesses worship at his feet. This is one of two scenes from the famous biblical narrative that Maria Gakovic depicts on her lidded vessel<em>, Resurrection of Lazarus<\/em> (c. 1989). A sense of the spiritual often appears in Gakovic\u2019s paintings and ceramics, be it a resplendent painted landscape or an infinity pattern woven into a ceramic basket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria Gakovic moved to Canada from Yugoslavia, where she settled in Regina in 1952. She was a student at the University of Regina under painters and <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.uregina.ca\/president\/art\/college-avenue-campus\/regina-five-wall\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1638\">Regina Five<\/a> members, <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.uregina.ca\/president\/art\/education-building\/arthur-fortescue-mckay\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"602\">Arthur McKay<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.uregina.ca\/president\/art\/riddell-centre\/ted-godwin-54-freight\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"346\">Ted Godwin<\/a>, and ceramist <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.uregina.ca\/president\/art\/classroom\/jack-sures\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"451\">Jack Sures<\/a>.
