VIDEO: Student film shares the story of hockey player Mandi Schwartz
Mandi’s Army — the story and legacy of Mandi Schwartz is a short documentary created by University of Regina journalism students Taylor Shire, Sarah Ritchie and Christeen Jesse.
Schwartz graduated from Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan in 2006 and went on to play with the Yale Bulldogs women’s ice hockey team.
Her diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia resulted in bone marrow drives across Canada.
She died in Regina at the age of 23.
The documentary includes interviews with her parents, friends and teammates.
