The Faculty of Education, Teaching Preparation Centre (TPC) is hiring 6 student assistant positions. The primary purpose of these positions is to provide operational support services in the TPC, charging and discharging library materials and re-shelving of library materials.
Duration Of Employment: November –December 19-2014
Number of Hours Expected to Work: Each student assistant will receive no more than 24 hours within the duration of employment. The work schedule will be designed around the student schedule and the hours worked per week will be discussed bi-weekly.

Salary: CUPE 2419 2013-2016 Collective Agreement – Salary Scales
Assistant Category (Hourly Rate)
Ph.D. 19.70 21.22 (includes vacation pay)
Masters 18.78 20.22(includes vacation pay)
4th Year 16.50 17.45(includes vacation pay)
Other 13.52 14.30(includes vacation pay)

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide guidance and assistance to patrons regarding general and specific library/service information
• Circulation: Charge, discharge, renew and recall library materials
• Maintain physical organization of the Teaching Preparation Centre (TPC) materials collection including sorting, shelving
• Assist patrons in acquiring resources and/or materials
• Assistant with collection maintenance activities and projects as appropriate
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Student in the Faculty of Education
• Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the TPC patrons
• Organizational and time management skills
• Skill in the use of automated databases
• Some library experience would be an asset

2 new Graduate Scholarship Initiatives

The Faculty of Graduate Studies is pleased to announce two new programs that will help faculties attract high calibre graduate students for Fall 2014.

First, is the Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) program. At the PhD level, these are worth $25,092 and at the Master’s level, they are worth $20,854. The funding includes the following:
• FGSR funding – $10,000 PhD; $8,000 Master’s
• Supervisor funding – $10,000 PhD; $8,000 Master’s
• Minimum 1 TA, Maximum 2 TAs – i.e, max of $5,092 PhD; $4,854 Master’s

GRFs are for new, thesis-based graduate students only. Line faculties can nominate up to 3 PhD and 3 Master’s students for the first competition. The nomination packages will be evaluated by the FGSR Scholarships and Awards Committee.

The second program is the Saskatchewan Innovation Entrance Scholarship*. These scholarships are for new students only. They are worth up to $14,000 and will be paid over the Fall 2014 and Winter 2015 semesters. Each line faculty can nominate 2 PhD and 2 Master’s students for these awards.
[*the Saskatchewan Innovation Entrance Scholarship is a separate competition from the general Saskatchewan Innovation Competition. There will still be a general Saskatchewan Innovation competition that will be held in Fall 2014 for all students. Once the date is set for this competition FGSR will notify all departments and students.]

Please find attached the nomination forms and terms of reference for both the GRF and Saskatchewan Innovation programs. The terms of reference will provide further information on how both of these programs will work.

The deadline for nominations will be April 15, 2014.
