Crossing Over: International Practice-based Research and Tele/digital Performance

Crossing Over, a pedagogical art / performance project linking university students around the world, investigates the notion of cosmopolitanism as a way to constitute meaningful social networks by exchanging virtual performances–and suitcases–over the internet.

The questions that the project asks are critical in light of the globalization of information that the World Wide Web, and other crossing over points represent. While globalization purports to open borders to economic exchange and the internet has become the portal to an endless stream of data, in fact, real and virtual borders become increasingly difficult to negotiate ethically. They have become, rather, opportunities to gather and exchange personal information and track identities.
